SPEARCHILD ARTS

I am a queer, Anglo-Italian/Sardinian artist and designer with a lifelong ambition in acting and performance. In summer of 2018 I had my first real experience in filmmaking, both behind and in front of the camera, and since then I have been working as both an actress and artist in film, working with other independent filmmakers to bring our ideas to life. I decided in 2021 to make a website and a brand name for myself in the hopes that I can move beyond freelance art and into the realm of the creative industry full time. The name Spearchild, is taken from two possible translations of my surname and I designed the logo to represent the beauty that can be found even in something as scary or sad as being pierced with a spear; I enjoy exploring dark themes through my art and adding an ethereal twist to them to create something truly unique.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to work in the creative industry

Despite studying Mathematics, Physics and Product Design at A level, it wasn't until the exams themselves that I realised that I wasn't pursuing the career I thought wanted. My biggest struggle was shutting out the voices of my peers and teachers who believe that a career in the creative industry, specifically in film or gaming, would not be a suitable option. Despite having trained in Ballet, Tap and Modern for 13 years, completing all graded levels as well as starting to train at a vocational level, I was still discouraged from furthering my career in something similar. In summer of 2018 however, my perspective was dramatically shifted thanks to the Set Ready course hosted by the National Youth Film Academy. Those ten days spent making a short film with like minded people gave me all the proof and inspiration I needed to know that I belong in the creative industry.

Since then, I have worked on a number of independent and funded, award winning films, as a key art designer and production assistant, continuing to grow my existing network of filmmakers, actors and artistic collaborators, whilst also developing my portfolio in the hopes of finding a more permanent job in either the film/gaming industry.
